The Sunlight Winter Sports Club was in Aspen this past weekend to compete against AVSC, Breckenridge, Vail and Team Summit in four Bolle Age Class slalom races. The Sunlight athletes have been training four days a week since early December, and their efforts paid off with multiple podium placements, top 10s and personal bests.
In the girls under-10 category, Sunlight’s Cate Simpson took home a first place medal on Sunday. Skylar Adelman, in her first year at the U14 leel, skied a fast, clean run that landed her on top of the podium. In the U12 boys, Tucker Sheldrake’s had and exciting run and grabbed a bronze in the fourth and final race.
Competitors can compete in up to four races and earn a place in each event.
Other notable finishes were earned by the Sunlight athletes throughout the weekend: Simpson, U10 (first place), Kailey Murphy, U10 (eighth, fifth, fourth), Michal Hale, U14 (18th), Elizabeth Barsness, U14 (10th, 15th), Skylar Adelman, U14 (sixth, fourth, first), Aidan Parch, U12 (fifth, seventh, eighth, 11th), Orion Adelman, U12 (11th, 12th, 13th) JP Simpson, U14 (eighth, 11th, 11th), Tucker Sheldrake, U12 (14th, third).
The Sunlight Ski Team has now turned its attention to preparing for the Prater Cup, a U14 Junior Olympic qualifier which will be held next week in Crested Butte. The U10 and U12 athletes are gearing up for championship events in March.
