Work Deposit

A work deposit is required for all programs, based on athlete’s contact days. Pre-approved work can include hosting races, race and protection preparation, The Sunlight Ski Swap, and construction or maintenance help.

Buddy Werner

The Buddy Werner program is designed for skiers aged 6 to 12 years who want to develop ski-skills in a fun, kid-oriented program designed to give children an exposure to alpine ski racing. Participants meet in small groups with volunteer adult coaches on Saturdays, December 31 through March 4. For 2017, Sunlight will host the BW State Championships (training Saturday March 4, racing Sunday, March 5.)

Skiers are instructed in the basics of ski racing and team participation with an emphasis on learning slalom, giant slalom, and SkillsQuest under close supervision by experienced coaches and parents who are accomplished skiers. Requires work deposit.

Youth Ski League

The Youth Ski League Team is designed for the racer who wants more coaching and contact days than the traditional Buddy Werner program, yet isn’t ready to commit to the full time Ski Team program. The YSL program is for USSA-registered skiers aged 8 to 16 years who want to continue their development of ski racing-skills with a USSA registered coach. Participants meet with ski team coaches on Saturdays and Sunday mornings, or will race in several away USSA YSL races on Sundays. Schedule permitting, YSL may also elect to enter Roaring Fork Valley Series races (with Aspen and Powderhorn). Begins Saturday, December 31 through Sunday, March 26 at the YSL Finals in Eldora.

Skiers are instructed in athletic, physical, tactical, and mental aspects of ski racing and team participation with an emphasis on learning slalom, giant slalom, and SkillsQuest by experienced coaches.

YSL and Part-Time racers may add Winter Break Camp for an additional fee.

May add Big Wednesday after school program for an additional fee.

Age Class

The Age Class program is for ages 10-14. Athletes meet weekends and up to 2 weekdays depending on their age for SL, GS, SG, and SkillsQuest training. Races may include select USSA SYNC, Age Class, Championships, and Spring races, as well as RFVS and our local YSL, if appropriate.

Full Time includes dryland; early season training depending on age; December Camp; and Spring races. Dryland begins September 13, Early-season training begins late-October (FT) Sunlight on-snow training begins Early December. The season ends April 9 at the Loveland Derby slalom races.

U16 Program (15 yrs and older)

This is the highest level of training provided by Sunlight Ski Team. Racers 15 years and older compete in the SYNC series supported by RMD/USSA. Dryland Training begins in mid-September. From late November through March, team members have the opportunity to train both weekend days; after school Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and/or Thursdays; during Winter vacation; and some additional school holidays. Depending on local snow conditions, racers may travel for early season training before Sunlight Resort opens to have adequate time on snow before racing begins. The race season begins in early December.
