Local Sports Briefs: Sunlight racers fare well at Breckenridge event

The Sunlight Winter Sports Club under-14 racers traveled to Breckenridge to compete in a Junior Championship-Qualifying super-G on the World Cup Cimmaron track on the weekend of Jan. 24 and 25.

Against all the U14 racers throughout Colorado, Tucker Sheldrake brought home a 17th, JP Simpson finished 23rd, and Aidan Partch scored a 48th-place finish

In the two Valley Series slalom races held at Aspen Highlands that weekend, 18 young Sunlight athletes competed. Top-10 results came from Chloe Lutgring, Emily DeMoraes, Garrett Voller, Masie Smith, and Katie Strickland.

Sunlight standouts included Zoe Harbour, who had a first-place finish in the U14s, followed by Charlie Meyer in third. In the U12s, Cate Simpson finished second and was accompanied by Mykel Backofen, who managed a pair of fourth-place finishes. In the U10 age group, Zoe Sheldrake put down a pair of third-place finishes.

In the boys U14 races, Curtis Madden had a second- and a third-place finish. Sebastian Bartnik skied to a solid fourth in the U10 age group.

Sunlight racers competed again this past weekend in the Age Class Open slalom races, which were held on Strawpile on Aspen Mountain.
